It’s been over 8 years since I became a mother. It’s my most rewarding and fulfilling, yet challenging, role I’ve ever had in my life. Often the days are a blur and I’m just trying to keep my head above water, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Children grow up so quickly and this is one of the reasons why I love capturing motherhood. I love capturing parenthood in general, so I don’t want to discount fatherhood images, but from my own personal experience, I’ve found that mothers are typically the photographers of their family and end up capturing dads with their kids. What I tend to see a lack in, is mothers getting in the frame with their kids, whether it’s because they feel critical of their body, or they’re not wearing makeup, or their hair is a mess. To your kids though, none of that matters. Just being with you is what’s important and this is why capturing motherhood is so near and dear to my heart.

Not only are mothers typically the ones photographing their families, but I hear so many of them wanting to stay behind the camera. Women tend to be more self-critical of themselves and while no one else can see the flaws they see, it makes them hesitant to get in front of the camera lens. But this is why I want you to come to me for a motherhood session. The images I capture are ultimately not for you. They are for your children. They only know the love and care you give them, despite how you feel you look.

Growing up, my mom’s weight fluctuated a lot. She would hide behind me or my dad in pictures. She didn’t like her picture taken at all, but she would oblige me. I don’t see her weight when I look at those pictures of her when I was younger. I just see her as my loving mother and I’m grateful to have those pictures with her. Your kids will feel the same! So I encourage you to book your session and get in the frame with your babies while they’re still young, because in a blink of an eye, they’ll be all grown!

Because of how much I value Motherhood Sessions, I am starting a project that will give more opportunities for mothers to get in the frame with their children. I realize that sometimes hiring a professional photographer can be cost prohibitive. I never want this to be the case for those mothers who work hard and yet still find the time to be present and love and care for their children. During certain times of the year, I will open up my services and provide free sessions to those deserving mothers. All you need to do is contact me through my website and explain why you, or a mother you know, deserves a motherhood session and how a free session will benefit you/her.

After sharing some of my favorite motherhood session images below, scroll down to the link I’ve shared to a post by Stacey Adams, a newborn photographer in Albuquerque, NM, who has a wonderful post about dressing and preparing your baby for their newborn session. Together, we are participating in a blog circle with other photographers.  We’re linking to each other’s posts, so you can check out what they’re up to. For those sweet mamas whose babies are new to the world, you’ll definitely want to check out her post.

And don’t forget to check out this month’s blog circle. There’s a group of six of us this month and you won’t want to miss out on Stacey’s latest post to help you dress and prepare your newborn before their session. It contains some really helpful tips and some really adorable newborn shots! Just click on the link here: Newborn Photographer in Albuquerque, NM

These are absolutely beautiful, and you are so right that motherhood is a season to be cherished and documented in photos – no matter what. It’s so fleeting!

Such a beautiful tribute to motherhood (parenthood). I also love that you provide free services. You are amazing momma!
