NAPCP Master Photographer in Family Photography

I’m excited to announce that I was recently awarded the honor of Master Photographer in Family Photography from the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP). To demonstrate this mastery level, I had to submit a portfolio of 25 family images of different subjects with unique poses and locations. A family could only be represented once, despite how many times I may have had a shoot with them. Having a portfolio of 25 different families was important because it represents a wide breadth of work and shows expertise in that field over time. The portfolio was then scored based on consistency and technical skill. I’m grateful to have been selected for this honor. Some of the feedback I received was: “Stunning portfolio! Love the lighting, the locations you chose, the connections captured, all of it. Well done!”

In getting my portfolio ready, I found a side benefit was getting the opportunity to go through all of my family sessions over the last 2.5 years. There were so many sessions I loved, but I had to be strategic in the 25 images I chose, so I combed through nearly all of them in that time. There’s a mix of traditionally posed images as well as candid ones, in different locations with various lighting situations. I’ve learned so much in the time from when I first started my business, both in technical skill as well as in best shooting practices when working with families. I’ve learned more about light and what works best in a family session given the location we’re in. I’ve learned what helps families become more comfortable in front of the camera and how to direct and guide them through a shoot. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m excited to continue to grow with the title of Master Photographer to my credentials!

Here are the 25 images from my accepted portfolio. Hope you enjoy!

After checking out my accepted portfolio, I’d love to share a link from a post by Annika Bloch, a fellow photographer from West London, who has a beautiful post about a family outdoor session. Together, we are participating in a blog circle with another photographer.
